August 2, 2011 – The best way to find the most reliable movers in your area is by conducting interviews before making a final decision. Although many long distance moving companies advertise the same services, there is quite a bit of difference in the quality they deliver.
Before calling your contenders, take ample time to put together a list of questions. The following queries should be included in your interviews.
1. Do you accept assignments to my particular destination? Many companies have restrictions.
2. Do you have insurance? You want to ensure that your possessions are insured while in the care of the movers. Moving companies should also insure their employees.
3. Do you offer free moving quotes? A business that charges for a quote is usually more interested in profits than the wellbeing of your belongings.
4. What information do you need from me for your quote? The company’s representative should give you a list of data the estimator requires to complete an estimate. A price should be guaranteed.
5. What will happen on the day of the pickup? An experienced crew should wrap, box and crate everything that needs to be shipped. All items and boxes should be numbered and color coded. A foreman completes a detailed inventory and writes down the condition of the items.
6. How long will it take before my delivery arrives? Delivery times vary depending on which one of the long distance moving companies you employ and the distance that has to be completed.
7. When do you require payment? In general, 50% is due the day of the pickup, and the remainder has to be paid the day of the delivery.
8. What payment types do you accept? Personal checks are often not on that list.
9. What is your availability? No sense on pursuing a company that has no trucks and crew available on the day you plan to move.
10. Can I have 3 references? Contact the consumers on those references to verify the statements you received are real.
